BScene is a Brantford-based community platform that shares local events, news, and cultural updates. While well known among older residents, its website and social media struggled to engage younger demographics, especially students and newcomers.

The existing site had outdated design, poor navigation, and no ticketing or review features, while social media required significant manual effort without producing strong engagement.

Our task was to reimagine BScene’s digital presence so it could serve as a modern, centralised hub for Brantford’s events, attract younger users, and streamline internal workflows.

Introduction

  • Improve website usability with modern UI and advanced filtering

  • Attract 18–25-year-olds without alienating older audiences

  • Create scalable, branded social media templates for efficiency

  • Provide a roadmap for ticketing and feedback integration

  • Strengthen BScene’s brand recognition and visual appeal

Goal

  1. Survey 📋 : 14 student participants aged 18–22

  2. Tree Testing 🌳: 6 participants navigating BScene’s structure

  3. Competitive Analysis 📊: EventBrite, Meetup, Narcity Toronto, Instagram’s Eoriginals

  • EventBrite excels at ticketing and reviews

  • Meetup is strong in community-driven events but lacks customization

  • Narcity has strong branding but limited interactivity

  • Eoriginals is visually appealing but restricted by Instagram’s UI

  • BScene must differentiate through ticketing, reviews, and stronger branding

  • 📱 Preferred platforms for event updates: Instagram and TikTok.

  • 📋 Survey conducted with 10 required questions (multiple choice, short answer, multi-select).

  • 🎉 Interests included: future festivals, upcoming events, community news, arts events, and volunteering/work opportunities.

  • 📧 Promotion preferences: social media ranked highest, with newsletters valued more than blogs or articles.

  • 📲 Content access: most users prefer app-based platforms for smoother mobile experiences compared to websites.

  • 🚫 Challenges identified: lack of centralized event listings, weak promotional strategies, and unstructured discovery methods.

  • 🌐 User needs: a digital event platform with clear interfaces, strong marketing tactics, effective navigation, and powerful content discovery tools.

Looking ahead, the next steps include integrating ticketing and review systems, expanding research to mature demographics, conducting A/B testing for social media templates, and developing the prototype into a fully responsive live site.
